The MID DAY MEAL SCHEME was implemented throughout the country on 15 August 1955 as a centrally sponsored scheme. After this, in September 2004, a comprehensive change was made in the program and the system of providing cooked hot food based on Ganyu was started. At present, this program is being implemented by the State Government with the help of the Government of India in all the government aided schools up to the upper primary level of the state, School Education Guarantee Scheme and A.E. run by the Local Government Department. I.E. Centers are being run in special schools and madrassas etc. run under the National Child Labor Project (NCLP).

Mid-day meals are responsible for increasing the number of girls in schools and increasing the nutritional level of students.

The objectives of Mid Day Meal Scheme are as follows –
- Mid Day Meal Scheme is an important flagship scheme of the Government of India which aims to increase the nutritional level of children, encourage education among poor children of backward classes, increase enrolment, retention of students in school and remove gender, religion and caste based inequality. - Ending hunger and malnutrition, increasing school enrollment and attendance, improving socialization among castes, providing grassroots employment, especially to women.

According to the guidelines issued by the Rajasthan Government under the Mid Day Meal Scheme, before serving mid-day meal to the students in every school, it should be compulsorily tasted by two senior persons, one of whom is a parent and one a member of the school management committee. For this, a roster of parents and school management committee members should be prepared and it should be entered in the register daily, so that it can be ensured that the nutritious food has been tasted by two persons before feeding it to the students and it is completely safe.
In every school, one teacher is made responsible for this and is made in-charge.

Food arrangement – Under the Mid Day Meal Scheme, food is given to the students as per the prescribed menu and it is mandatory to give fruits to the students once a week.
